Delhi's Odd-Even Reading Opportunity

Those of you living in Delhi may be aware of the recent odd-even policy started by the state government which permits only odd numbered cars to be driven on odd dates and even numbered cars to be driven on even dates. This experiment started by the Delhi government is one of the many measures it is taking to tackle the growing pollution in Delhi.

Now I’m not sure if it’ll be successful in achieving the goal it has set before itself but I’m certainly excited about the fact that it’ll encourage more people to use public transport like buses, autos, taxis and my personal favorite, the Delhi Metro. Sure it would mean that the metros would be more crowded but in the long run it could certainly be something that works out well for Delhi. This is a great opportunity for all those who are living in Delhi to start using the metro. Even if you’re skeptical that it’ll be crowded, take a shot, use it on a weekend when you think it’ll be less crowded. Use it to take a trip to a part of the city where you rarely go to. Delhi is most certainly large enough to still have places that you might want to visit. Take it as a challenge to use the metro at least once before the 15th of Jan.

I also take this opportunity to encourage those of you traveling in the metro in the next couple of weeks especially to pick up a book to read while traveling. There’s a good chance that you won’t get a seat to sit and read comfortably but don’t let that stop you. All you need is a place to stand and to hold your book. Drown out the world around you and immerse yourself in the world of the book you’re reading. I for one am looking forward to seeing many more metro readers this week. Hopefully Delhities will rise up to this challenge as well!

Happy Reading!

P.S. If you're making a speacial effort to travel using the metro this week or if you're reading while traveling then let the world know by posting it on the Metro Reader facebook page with the hashtag #metroreadersfordelhi
